Unsung Bay Ridge: A local stalwart

NEIGHBORS WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCEOur unsung heroes

I would like to wish you a Happy New Year. May 2015 be a very good year for you and your family.

This week, I would like to highlight a very special person who has devoted his life to community affairs. I feel this recognition is long overdue. George H. Jensen, chairperson of the board of the Norwegian Christian Home, grew up on the grounds of this very popular facility, as it was founded by his family.

In addition to his responsibilities at the home, he finds the time to serve as chairperson of the First Evangelist Church, located at 67th Street and Sixth Avenue. Not only has George served the elderly, but he has helped coach our young people by being a scoutmaster for over 50 years.

He is ever ready to support community projects when asked, and helps to produce our annual Norwegian Day Parade. He is supported by his loving wife Ann Marie, and his children, Debbie, Gordon and Dinah. George is a caring person and a pillar of the Norwegian community. We are honored to have such unsung heroes in our community.

UNSUNG FOLK REMEDIES: Cantaloupe

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center has found that a cup of cantaloupe every day can lead to an effortless 13-pound weight loss in 12 weeks. It also lowers LDL cholesterol and the potassium also helps to reduce brain fog.

Please consult your doctor if you have any health concerns, or are on any medication.
