Williamsburg to take a bite of the Apple?

An ever-growing Williamsburg may need to make room for a few Geniuses – Apple Geniuses, that is.

The North Brooklyn nabe will soon be home to the borough’s first Apple store, according to the New York Post. The tech giant has reportedly signed a lease for a 20,000-square-foot space at 247 Bedford Avenue, just blocks from the Bedford Avenue L station, where businesses like Kings Pharmacy and The Bagel Store once stood.

The building – purchased for $66 million in 2012 – is currently owned by Red Sky Capital and Waterbridge Capital. According to the Post, the landlords were represented in the transaction by Lee NYC managing principal Peter Braus while Crown Retail Services and Open Realty’s Chris DeCrosta represented Apple.

According to reports, the two-story brick building at the corner of Bedford and North Third will be renovated to include arched windows among other upscale features, to be completed in April 2015.

“The neighborhoods of Williamsburg and Greenpoint are quickly becoming the centers of technological advancement in New York City,” said Assemblymember Joseph Lentol, who represents the area. “We are home to Vice, Kickstarter, and Amazon, just to name a few. What better place for Apple to open up shop. I am optimistic that Apple will open their first store in Brooklyn, in the best part of Brooklyn – North Brooklyn.”

By press time, Red Sky Capital, Open Realty, Apple and the neighborhood’s community board had not responded to requests for comment.
