Bay Ridge Saint Patrick’s Parade planning in full swing

Sláinte! Next year’s Bay Ridge Saint Patrick’s Parade is already in the works. Scheduled for March 23, 2014, the 20th annual Sunday celebration will run green down Third Avenue for the second year in a row.

The Parade Committee stayed true to its roots, hosting the parade’s annual fundraiser at the Wicked Monk – an old-fashioned Irish pub. Aside from collecting friendly donations, the Bay Ridge community raised a glass to next year’s grand marshal and honorees, who were introduced at the event.

Next year’s top gun will be Grand Marshal Joseph Fox, Chief of Transit for the NYPD. Brooklynite Fox will be joined by Deputy Marshals Mary Kae Higgins, Brian Cassidy, Denise Benardello-Frederick, Kevin Fay, Catherine Toolan Gearity, Frank O’Sullivan, Cathy Harkin and Dan Woods – all prominent members of the local community.

“It’s a cross-section of outstanding individuals, both female and male, that their backgrounds in a professional and personal matter are impeccable,” said parade President Frankie Marra. “We’ve got nurses, we’ve got business owners, we’ve got a great slate of grand and deputy marshals.”

Marra praised Grand Marshal Fox for his hard work and dedication.

Fox became a member of the New York City Police Department in July of 1981, beginning his career on patrol in the 70th Precinct.

With over 30 years of police work under his belt, Fox has pretty much done it all, spanning five Brooklyn precincts – the 61st, 62nd, 70th, 71st and 90th – as well as a long stint as commanding officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, and numerous other postings.

Now Chief of Transit, the grand marshal has gone above and beyond to serve South Brooklyn.

“The parade is going to be bigger and better than ever,” added Marra.
