Dog day Halloween in Brooklyn

Halloween went to the dogs on Sunday, October 26 as South Brooklyn celebrated not one but two pet-friendly costume contests – Sean Casey Animal Rescue’s seventh annual Howl-O-Ween Bark Block Party and Coney Island’s Halloween Harvest Dog Parade and Costume Contest.

“That’s our Murph,” said Bay Ridge resident Brian Maguire, proud owner of Murphy Maguire, a two-year-old Golden Doodle who strutted his stuff as a massive spider, taking home first place in Coney Island’s “Scariest Costume” category (and sending his owner home with $100). “We’re definitely proud of him.”

The Coney Island parade – held just one day after the annual kid’s parade – hit Surf Avenue from 2 to 4 p.m. while the Howl-O-Ween Block Party hit East Third Street near Fort Hamilton Parkway from noon to 5 p.m. featuring live music, a puppy kissing booth, on-the-spot pet adoptions and more.
