72nd Precinct Police Beat: Two perps with guns break into Sunset Park home, tie up victims

The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

TIED UP

Two Asian males broke into a home at Seventh Avenue and 56th Street on Tuesday, July 12 at around 4:45 a.m. The men, dressed in black, wearing masks and holding firearms, attacked the three male victims and demanded that they go to the back room. Once in the room, the perps tied the victims’ hands. One of the victims managed to escape the room and ran away. The perps then opened a desk drawer containing approximately $3,000, stole it, and fled on foot in an unknown direction. The remaining victims managed to free themselves and hailed police when they felt safe.

THE CHASE

On Thursday, July 14 at around 12:45 a.m., cops stopped a 26-year-old man who was in possession of an open container of alcohol near 53rd Street and Sixth Avenue. A check revealed that the man had an active warrant. When officers attempted to place him under arrest, the perp attempted to flee the scene. When an officer caught up to him, the perp swung and missed him, then shoved the officer to ground. Moments later, the criminal was spotted hiding under a vehicle. Cops arrested him and discovered he was also in possession of marijuana.

REGISTERED

A burglar broke into a clothing store through the rear of the building at Fifth Avenue and 58th Street some time between Sunday July 17 at 7:45 p.m. and Monday, July 18 at 9:05 a.m., breaking the cash register and stealing $205. Store owners claimed the building was locked.

FOOL RETURNS TO SCENE OF CRIME

Two robbers enter a clothing store near Fifth Avenue and 55th Street on Tuesday, July 12 at around 1:52 p.m. and attempted to steal several hats, shirts and socks. A store worker, a 25-year-old man, attempted to stop them, when one of the perps punched him in the face. Following the altercation, the perps ran outside and into a red Jeep and fled the scene. During a police investigation, one of the perps returned to the store to look for his cell phone. The victim recognized the crook and informed police. He was arrested at the scene.

COWARD ATTACKS WOMAN

A 36-year-old woman was walking towards the southeast corner of Fourth Avenue and 60th Street on Tuesday, July 12 at around 10:50 a.m. when a man, described by the victim as a black man around 40 years old, approached her. He showed her a piece of paper and asked for directions. Once the victim was distracted, the perp grabbed a hold of the victim’s necklace and ripped it off her neck. He also threatened that if she did not give him money, he would punch her in the face. Instead, the crook took the cross from necklace, threw the necklace to the ground and fled westbound on 60th Street toward Third Avenue.
