Adelphi hosts annual holiday brunch

The John Lockwood Auditorium Theatre was transformed into Santa’s Village on Sunday, December 7,  as Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn welcomed nearly 200 families to its annual Holiday Brunch and Pageant.

The festive tradition also included performances by the students. The Lower School students performed their version of “A Charlie Brown Holiday” while members of the Upper School Adelphi Student Chorus along with the Adelphi Faculty & Staff Band treated the audience to “A Very Merry Holiday Performance” that had the entire audience clapping along.

As chorus members sang “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town,” Santa himself entered the auditorium to thunderous applause.  He then sat on stage and posed for photos with all the children (and some of the adults) in attendance as they told him what they wanted this holiday season.  The photos were printed and sent home with the families as a special holiday memento.

The annual event also served as an important fundraiser for the school, as gift baskets donated by parents, staff members and supporters were raffled off and presented to lucky winners. Prizes included music and sports memorabilia, holiday DVDs and CDs, and, of course, toys!

Adelphi also announced the Academy’s Special Trees for Special Needs Annual Fundraising Drive through which participants are able to sponsor real, seven-foot lighted trees that are displayed on the school campus throughout the holiday season.

Proceeds from the sponsorship program benefit Adelphi’s Project Succeed Program for College-Bound Students with Special Needs. Trees are still available for sponsorship and will be on display until January 9, 2015. Call the Office of Academy Development at 718-238-3308 for more information.

Adelphi’s Head of School, Iphigenia Romanos said, “The Annual Holiday Brunch and Pageant was a tremendous success and a wonderful opportunity for so many of our outstanding students to shine!  The families in attendance were so proud of their children and I was so very proud of my students!”

George Chedrawi, a local businessman, current and alumni parent and a member of Adelphi’s Parent Advisory Council, said, “No one does it better than Adelphi! My family enjoyed the event immensely and Adelphi’s attention to detail in planning the event was really incredible — they had something for everyone.  What an extraordinary school!”
