Brooklyn Dems party like it’s 2018

Brooklyn Democrats came together to celebrate the season earlier this month at a belated holiday party.

Hosted by Democratic District Leader Lori Citron Knipel, the Brooklyn Independent Democrats and the Lefkowitz family, the bash is a two-decades-old tradition that draws a steady stream of elected officials, community activists and civic leaders every year. This year, it was held at the National Restaurant, 273 Brighton Beach Avenue, on Thursday, January 11.

“It was a great turnout despite being the coldest day of the year,” said Knipel. “It’s gotten a reputation as the biggest and best Democratic holiday event in Brooklyn and the city. Electeds call me every year to find out when it is.

“It’s grown over the years,” she continued. “I’m always pleased with the crowd and the networking. People come to see and be seen. And, it’s always great to get everybody in one room. As cold as it was outside, the warmth inside was tremendous.”

This year, as well, the event served as a bit of R&R for attendees after a year of feeling the impact of the changes in Washington. “Especially this year,” noted Knipel, “after a year of our president, we all needed to come together, show solidarity, push the movement forward and reinvigorate the base.”
