Brooklyn Education: College and Career Day at P.S. 160

When P.S. 160 Principal Margaret Russo asks her third, fourth and fifth graders about their big goals, their answers always include going to college. To ensure that her students know that their goals are within their reach, the school recently held a College and Career Day.

During the day, the younger students designed their dream colleges and thought about possible future careers. Fourth and fifth graders enjoyed a visit from special guests who answered questions and shared some advice.

Christopher Penello, son of art teacher Janet Penello and a sophomore at Fordham University, spoke to students about his college experience. Three seniors from Brooklyn College Academy discussed their experiences earning college credits as high school students and being accepted early to colleges.

Seniors Amaya Langaigne, Makeba LaTouche, and Iana Lee were accompanied by Principal Nicholas Mazzarella, Assistant Principal Shernel Thomas-Daley and Parent Coordinator Suhadie Lajara-Rivas. Bright futures are ahead for the students of P.S. 160!

The National Center for Women & Information Technology National Award Selection Committee has chosen Fontbonne Hall Academy junior Spiridoula Hatziminadakis as a 2017 National Honorable Mention of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. Only 350 National Honorable Mention Award recipients were selected from more than 3,500 applicants.

The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing honors high school women who are engaged in computers and technology and encourages them to continue to pursue their interests in the field. Congratulations!
