A car crashed into a Dyker Heights gift shop late Tuesday evening, making it the second vehicle to crash into a storefront in the area in four days.
According to witnesses, a Lexus ran a stop sign at the corner of 68th Street and Eighth Avenue where it was hit by another car, an SUV. The SUV then lost control and drove into the front of Chung Yi Gift Inc., 6724 Eighth Avenue.
Fire Department officials said the call came in at 11:05 p.m., at which time Ladder 109 responded. Three people were involved in the incident, two of whom refused medical attention. The third was transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in serious but stable condition.
“The white [Lexus] ran a stop sign; then the black car hit the white car and the black car lost control,” said Saqyb Khali, a witness. “I saw the black car turn into the store and all I could think was, ‘Oh my god.’”
Marina Korotun heard the crash from her home.
“It sounded bad so I ran out to see if somebody needed to be dragged out,” she said, adding that the wheels of the SUV were still spinning when she got to the scene. “I was just really thankful that the car didn’t turn over.”
Khali stressed how much worse the incident could have been.
“These people should be safe driving; they shouldn’t be driving like this,” he said. “This is a family neighborhood. There’s kids out here.”
The crash comes just four days after a drunk driver lost control of his car and crashed into an American Greetings store at 8511 Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge.
