Fourth of July fireworks light up the borough

Another year, another spectacle.

The borough celebrated America’s independence in style with front-row views of the 40th Annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks.

Despite a little bit of rain, the ‘works went off without a hitch over the East River as spectators from Coney Island to Williamsburg took in the sights.

“It’s always nice to see fireworks on the fourth,” said Bay Ridge resident Sarah Collins, who enjoyed the view from the 69th Street Pier, “but the rain made it a little difficult this year. Though, it was a still a great turnout. A huge thank you to the 68th Precinct for keeping the traffic moving around the pier.”

Over in Coney, the turnout was just as noteworthy.

“Another beautiful [Fourth of July] celebration in Coney Island,” wrote Councilmember Mark Treyger on Facebook, making sure to thank all the veterans and active members of the armed forces for making celebrations like his district’s possible.

The 25-minute display proved to be Macy’s biggest and boldest display since its millennium special in 2000, and included 56,000 pyrotechnic shells.
