Generally Speaking: First responders hailed at Brooklyn Wall memorial

First responders, veterans and 9/11 family members gathered at the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance on the western wall of the MCU ballpark in Coney Island for the eighth annual tribute to New York City first responders and “Heroes Night”  with the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, executive vice president of the New York City Board of Rabbis and Monsignor John Delendick, pastor of St. Jude’s Catholic Church, addressed the attendees. Both Potasnik and Delendick are FDNY chaplains.  Potasnik also co-hosts the weekly show “Religion on the Line” over WABC 770 AM Radio.

The program included participation by the FDNY ceremonial Color Guard and the department’s Pipes and Drums. Also present for the ceremonies was Sol Moglen, a senior vice commander with the Jewish War Veterans, and founder and chair of the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance. This annual event is sponsored by the Sons of the American Legion Radio group.

Traditionally, after the brief ceremonies at the Wall, a huge American flag is carried onto the baseball diamond inside MCU Park, accompanied by the FDNY Color Guard and Pipers, but due to the steady rain prior to the delayed start of the Cyclones game, it had to be cancelled.
