Generally Speaking: Metro Chamber Orchestra in concert

The Brooklyn-based Metro Chamber Orchestra recently held a fabulous free concert in the Post Theater at Fort Hamilton Army Base. Led by maestro and artistic director Philip Nuzzo, the grand ensemble played compositions from Copland, Sousa and others. One of the guest vocalists performing at the event was Victoria Rodriguez.

Nuzzo will again be conducting the MC Orchestra at its 15th anniversary gala celebration at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on October 8, 2017.

Third Avenue’s second Summer Stroll had a terrific turnout. Among the groups drawing large attendance was the Narrows Community Theater’s cast from its up-and-coming production of “The Little Mermaid,” and the awesome youthful dancers from Third Avenue’s Dimension in Dance Studio.

The Ragamuffin Parade Committee was on the avenue with a new bright orange tent.  When we stopped by, Ragamuffin President Arlene Keating and Treasurer Laurie Windsor along with George Bruce were handing out advance copies of the Ragamuffin registration forms for this year’s coming kiddie parade on October 14.

We’re saddened by the recent death of former Bay Ridgeite and neighbor attorney Peter Ieradi, 47, at such a young age! Ieradi, who grew up on the same block as this writer, was a graduate of Xaverian High School and Loyola University Law School.

He moved to Louisiana where he served as a deputy sheriff, assistant district attorney and later a public defender. Our condolences to his mom, former Kings County ADA and Bureau Chief Joan Ieradi, and to their family and friends.
