The Society of Old Brooklynites spent its usual November meeting touring the new Brooklyn Navy Yard Museum and Visitors Center where members were given a guided tour by the Museum’s Vice President of Exhibits and the Yard’s archivist Daniela Romano.

Since most of the bodily remains from the British prison ships were recovered from Wallabout Bay (the present site of the Navy Yard) and later entombed into a large crypt in Fort Greene Park, the area has special significance to the society. It has been holding annual commemorative memorial ceremonies at the foot of the Prison Ship Martyrs’ Monument.
