JV Bonnies earn third seed, advancing to playoffs

Hoping to do better than their 9-6 opening day loss to Molloy, the Bonnies faced the Stanners again for the last game of the regular season on the road in Queens. A win was not in the cards for Fontbonne, as the first place 7-3 Stanners dominated the 6-4 Bonnies for an 8-1 loss, sending the Brooklyn team home with a third place seeding for the upcoming playoffs.

In addition to capturing first place for the 2017 regular season, the Molloy Stanners even managed to tie formerly league-leading Fontbonne for the most runs scored (113) this season during that last game.

In the opening round of the playoffs, the third seeded Bonnies dominated the sixth seeded St. Saviour with a 16-2 win, allowing Fontbonne to advance to the semi-final round.

The JV’s front line pitcher Brianna Alicandro pitched three scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, while Taylor Romeo closed the game over the next two innings while giving up just two runs. Offensively, Fontbonne got on the board early with three home runs by Alicandro, Nicolette Torani and Christina DeAngelis, coincidentally hit during their first at-bats of the game.

With the JV playoffs advancing to the semi-final round, the third seeded Bonnies will face second seeded St. Francis Prep while fifth seeded Xaverian with face first seeded Molloy.

“So far the girls have brought their A game to the field all season,” said JV Coach Nicole Marinello. “There’s no reason why that A game shouldn’t bring them to the final round,” maintained Marinello.
