Local kids get early taste of Halloween at McKinley Park Pumpkin Fest

The rain over the weekend put a damper on plans to show a Halloween-themed movie at McKinley Park. However, despite the weather, a pumpkin giveaway organized by Councilmember Vincent Gentile and the NIA Community Services Network brought sunshine to neighborhood children, who not only got to pick out a pumpkin of their very own, but also got to decorate their chosen specimen.

Pumpkin Fest 2016 was held on the afternoon of Saturday, October 6 at the Fort Hamilton Parkway and Bay Ridge Parkway oasis.

“A little rain didn’t get in the way of our pumpkin giveaway at McKinley Park,” remarked Gentile, adding, “Halloween spirit was in the air as my staff and NIA produced a great event. Children dressed in costume, pumpkins were painted and photos were taken by our autumn backdrop. We were happy to provide 300 free pumpkins and countless smiles as we kick-started the fall season.”
