The boards of two bigwig Brooklyn institutions have come together to launch the clinical collaboration between Maimonides Medical Center and New York Community Hospital.

The new relationship, discussed at length during a press conference on Tuesday, June 19 in New York Community Hospital’s Kings Highway boardroom, expands on the delivery of high quality clinical care in the borough, officials said.

In addition, leaders lauded, it draws on the shared values and strengths of each.

“Our missions are perfectly aligned,” said Maimonides President and CEO Kenneth Gibbs. “We believe in meeting our patients where they need us, whether out in their neighborhoods or in our hospital settings.”

George Weinberger, New York Community Hospital Board chair, agreed.

“The collaboration with Maimonides Medical Center is a perfect match for our hospital and all of the communities we serve,” he said.

Barry Stern, New York Community Hospital’s president and CEO, centered in on the ease with which the two institutions have come together. “Things are going so smoothly in our collaboration with Maimonides, that it’s hard to believe it’s only been a few months,” he said, “and our doctors are equally outstanding.”

Founded in 1929 by physician brothers Albert and Dudley Fritz, New York Community Hospital is a 134-bed, non-profit acute care hospital located in the Midwood and Madison Park section of the borough.

Maimonides Medical Center, founded in 1911 by a group of women looking to service the poor, is rooted in Borough Park. Among the top ranking in the country, Maimonides is also the largest hospital in Brooklyn.

The two, with almost 200 years of combined service, now are working hand in hand to make Brooklyn a healthier place in which to live.

“The borough of Brooklyn is the most richly diverse collection of communities,” said Eugene Keilin, Maimonides Medical Center board chair, “and we are pleased and proud to serve the healthcare needs of all of them.”
