Man faces up to 15 years in prison for attempted kidnapping in Sheepshead Bay

A 39-year-old man who exposed himself and tried to grab a nine-year-old girl from her front yard in Sheepshead Bay, has been convicted of several charges, Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced on Thursday, November 10.

According to Gonzalez, Robert Drach, of Sheepshead Bay, was convicted on Wednesday, November 9 of second-degree kidnapping, public lewdness, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal trespass after a jury trial before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Guy Mangano.

“It is disturbing that this defendant attempted to kidnap a little girl who was playing outside her home in broad daylight,” Gonzalez said. “She was lucky to be saved by her quick-thinking father and we will now see that the predator who attacked her is held accountable.”

According to trial testimony, the defendant took action when he saw the victim playing in the front yard of her home, located on Ford Street, on June 11, 2015 at approximately 7 a.m.

Drach then entered through the front gate and, when he attempted to drag the girl out, she struggled and screamed while observing the defendant’s exposed genitalia. Her father heard the screams, ran out and restrained Drach until police arrived.

However, the defendant stated that he was on his way to a friend’s house when he saw a girl he liked. He said the girl told him she was 18 and invited her to her house, saying her father wasn’t home. He also admitted to grabbing the victim and to exposing himself.

Drach faces up to of 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on November 29.
