Meet Lu Neng, Mercedes-Benz of Brooklyn Employee of the Month!

Lu Neng was born in Hong Kong and came to the states back in 1966. He is a graduate of St. Francis College in Pennsylvania. Although he worked in other industries before he settled into selling Mercedes-Benz luxury cars, throughout his entire career, Neng has always had a gift of selling.

“I started in the restaurant business, working on and off in Hong Kong and America,” Neng said. “I was always in sales and it’s just second nature sell to people to enhance their lives.”

Neng said what he likes about working at Mercedes-Benz of Brooklyn is meeting people from different cultures and nationalities throughout the day: “Brooklyn is truly the center of the ‘melting pot’ that New York City is known for.”

Neng, who is fluent in Chinese, said that the extra skill puts customers at ease, especially new immigrants.

“Sometimes they bring in their relatives to help with the translation,” he explained. “But if they can’t, knowing we speak the same language helps them feel more comfortable.

“If you are really selling well, it has little to do with luck. The dealership you represent is most important,” he went on. “Mercedes-Benz of Brooklyn is the best one I have seen yet – from the executive management to all levels of service, it’s the hard work and dedication to the customer that you need as a salesperson to support your progress.”

Neng has been at Mercedes-Benz of Brooklyn, matching customers with the Mercedes-Benz model that is right for them, for the past nine years. He sells new models, pre-owned and Sprinter cargo vans, a commercial line lightweight truck from Mercedes-Benz.

“I enjoy getting up and coming to work every day,” Neng said. “I just do sales; it’s all about the customer, customer, customer.”

Neng lives in Queens with his wife. He also has three children who are “all grown up.” When he is not hard at work at Mercedes-Benz of Brooklyn, he enjoys dabbling with his other love – food.

But does he cook?

“I like to eat,” Neng exclaimed!

The humble sales consultant had some simple advice for those graduating college or looking to get their feet wet in the sales industry.

“Go to school first and learn what you can,” Neng said, adding that the career in sales is not for everyone.

No matter what you sell, it’s important to have a proper support system,” he went on. “You need to build a system that works for you, and that takes self-determination and trial and error to discover yourself as a salesperson.”
