P.S. 204 evacuated after gas odor detected in building

Bensonhurst’s P.S. 204 was evacuated early Thursday morning following what police called “a gas odor” in the building.

According to cops, the school — located at 8101 15th Avenue — was evacuated at 8:34 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, with no injuries reported.

The 62nd Precinct’s Twitter feed stated that all students and staff were relocated to the New Utrecht High School auditorium and that there were no reports of sickness.

According to 62nd Precinct Captain Anthony Sanseverino, about 1,200 kids were evacuated and, rather than putting them outdoors, they were brought to the nearby auditorium for safety.

They have since been brought back to P.S. 204, and parents still have the option of normal dismissal.

The local fire department and National Grid were both on the scene, said Sanseverino.
