PHOTOS: Asian Pacific Heritage Festival brightens McKinley Park

Colorful costumes and traditional Asian dancing were enjoyed by many event attendees at the 14th annual Asian Pacific Heritage Festival at McKinley Park on Sunday, May 22.

From Taekwondo exhibitions to musical performances, McKinley Park was enriched with many different cultural aspects representing the Asian culture, and residents of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights were able to experience the culture firsthand through multiple activities at the celebration.

State Senator Marty Golden, who holds the celebration every year, believes that it is important to celebrate the achievements and success of the Asian American heritage.

“Millions of people originally from the Asian Pacific region now enrich our borough, city, state and nation, and their contributions should be recognized,” said Golden.

Along with a range of ethnic food and arts and crafts, the celebration also included Korean martial arts and a performance of the Lion Dance.

“This festival indeed highlighted the great traditions and history of this Asian culture, and traditional entertainment took center stage. I am proud to be able to host this event in McKinley Park for the 14th year,” said Golden.
