Holiday traditions create beauty for community folks to appreciate together.

On Thursday December 10, State Senator Marty Golden hosted his Annual Lady Moody Square Tree Lighting Ceremony in Gravesend at Avenue U and Lake Street. The festivities began at 6:30 p.m. with the promise of Christmas joy and excitement for all.

Cheerleaders from I.S. 228 David Boody Intermediate School graced the crowd with their renditions of Christmas carols, while local Girl Scouts were responsible for the festively decorated tree. I.S. 228 Principal Dominick D’Angelo served as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

Guests were encouraged to enjoy hot chocolate donated by Nuccio’s Bakery on Avenue U, which supplied enough for the hundreds of folks who attended, according to Golden’s office. The children were granted a jolly visit from none other than Santa Claus himself, as he and his elves gave out stuffed animals and games.

“It was great to see so many families in the historic Lady Moody Square singing Christmas carols and taking pictures with Santa Claus,” remarked Golden.“The Christmas Tree will make Lady Moody Square, and Gravesend, shine bright this most wonderful time of the year.”
