PHOTOS: Second “Taste of Fifth” festival caps off the summer

Bay Ridge residents got a little “taste” of what Fifth Avenue has to offer on Friday, August 26 at the second and final installment of the inaugural “Taste of Fifth” festival.

Similarly to Third Avenue’s “Summer Stroll,” Fifth Avenue was closed off to traffic from 73rd Street to 84th Street to give families the opportunity to saunter leisurely down the strip, enjoying mouthwatering samples of food from the avenue’s best eateries and appreciating what the neighborhood has to offer.

Friday’s “taste” drew crowds in the hundreds throughout the warm-weathered evening.

Sponsored by Bay Ridge’s Fifth Avenue’s BID, the event — which took place from 6 to 10 p.m. — promotes community business while also providing residents with the opportunity to enjoy quality time with friends and family.

“It was a great event,” said Jim Clark, president of the BID. “The restaurants did really well. The crowd was a little lighter [than the first] but it’s the end of the season. All in all, there was great participation and everybody had a great time.”

The BID saw an increased vendor participation this time around as well as added children’s activities such as games and rides.
