Sandy was a cat-astrophe for these felines

Calling all cat lovers! A group of cats who survived Hurricane Sandy are in search of a new home or—at the very least—foster care from altruistic pet owners.

The cats come from the Bath Beach, Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn and are the survivors of a destructive wave that demolished the walls of their home in the middle of Superstorm Sandy.

“My building had five feet of water that came into the lobby from the Bay that had a huge wave and high tide at the same time,” explained Linda Venitelli, who lives at 20^th Avenue and Shore Parkway. “It flooded all the apartments on the first floor, where this person lived with the cats.”

Because their current foster owner can no longer care for them due to resulting health issues, the cats are in need a new owner and a new home. “Adoption is the dream, but being fostered, until they are adopted, is a temporary solution,” Venitelli added.

Initially, seven cats were in need of adoption; thanks to outreach by Venitelli and other animal advocates, that number is down to four: Lilly, Patches, Rocky and Lestat. They are all fixed, friendly, declawed and have all had their shots.
