State hotline will take calls about poachers and polluters

The state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has launched a toll-free hotline to take reports 24/7 from the public about “wildlife and environmental crimes” such as poaching and pollution. Callers will be connected to a DEC police dispatcher.

The goal, said DEC Commissioner Joseph Martens, is to engage the public as “great stewards of our environment” who protect the state’s natural resources.

The number is 1-844-DEC-ECOS, or 1-844-332-3267.
