According to the FDNY, at around 8:27 p.m. on Friday, June 22, firefighters responded to a fire in a home on 41st Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues.
The fire was under control at around 9:10 p.m.
A neighbor witnessed the flames and saw firefighters remove two children from the building.
“We didn’t really hear it. We smelled smoke at first and we live right down the block,” said eyewitness Maria Kennedy. “We saw smoke coming out of the windows. The firetrucks started to come within a few minutes. They pulled the ladders up and fumes of smoke started to become thicker. We saw the flames and firemen went straight in and pulled out a little girl and baby which was remarkable. They looked like they were just fine. [They] looked about 11 years old and an infant.”
The FDNY stated that one person sustained minor injuries and was taken to NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
