Suspect arrested and charged in connection to attempted rape in Bensonhurst

Thanks to the work of the 62nd Precinct and the NYPD Special Victims Unit, the suspect sought in connection to an attempted rape in Bensonhurst last month has been apprehended and charged.

According to authorities, at around 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, the suspect – Sammy Bensabeur of Bay 19th Street – allegedly followed a 59-year-old woman to the door of her apartment near 17th Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway, pushed his way inside and exposed himself to her.

Bensabeur is said to have then forced the woman onto her couch and attempted to rape her. When the victim resisted, the suspect is said to have slapped her in the face.

The woman fought off the attempted rapist and ran out of the apartment, after which the suspect is said to have followed her out into the hallway. The victim was able to re-enter her apartment and shut the perp – who then fled southbound on 17th Avenue – out.

Bensabeur has been charged with attempted rape, sexually motivated burglary, forcible touching, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana.
