Unsung Bay Ridge: A quiet activist

NEIGHBORS WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Our unsung heroes

This week I have chosen to highlight the work of Eleanor SchianoThroughout the years, Eleanor has quietly continued to work with community projects including the Bay Ridge Community Council in addition to being a member of Community Board 10.

She is now focused on working full time with the Guild For Exceptional Children as she helps with its fundraising projects and other activities as a board member. Eleanor is always in the lead and has tireless energy, which she uses to in making her many projects successful.

Congratulations to Zoe KoutsoupakisMy wife and I recently visited Circa Vintage House at 276 88th Street, and got advice and assistance from its charming proprietor, Jillian DiazHer prices were very reasonable because she said that she wants to attract repeat customers who feel they are getting value for their money.

UNSUNG FOLK REMEDIES: Gout

Apply ice to the painful and swollen joints, as the ice will reduce inflammation.

Soak the feet in a warm Epsom Salts bath if the pain is concentrated in the big toe.

Eat fresh strawberries as well as cherries and cherry juice; they help to neutralize uric acid.

Drink eight to 10 glasses of water per day to flush toxins and uric acid from the body.

Place two tablespoons apple cider vinegar with two tablespoon honey twice per day.

Dissolve half a teaspoon of baking soda in an eight-ounce glass of water. Use at bedtime because the body is more acidic at night. This dosage can be repeated twice per day but avoid it if you suffer from high blood pressure.

Please consult your doctor if you are on any medication.
