A scene from the ninth annual Bay Ridge Greenmarket's kickoff.

Bay Ridge is about to get a lot greener.

The 10th annual Bay Ridge Greenmarket is set to kick off on Saturday, May 13 in the Third Ave and 95th Street Walgreen’s parking lot, bringing with it an array of producers selling everything from fresh-caught fish to baked goods.

The market, which has been dubbed  “Bay Ridge’s Town Hall” by Councilmember Vincent Gentile, is a collaboration between the pol and GrowNYC.

“Ten years ago we turned a parking lot into a town square,” said Gentile. “This year will be the 10 year celebration of a dream I had many years ago that I am so happy came true and continues to thrive today.”

The main purpose of the market is to bring farm-fresh fruits, vegetables, bread, fish, honey and flowers to Bay Ridge but in turn the greenmarket helps keep local, independent farmers in business and every Saturday.

“It really has become the neighborhood town square where everyone meets to talk about the latest community happenings,” said Gentile.

This year’s vendors and products include:

  • American Pride Seafood: Wild caught Fish from Suffolk County, NY
  • Bread Alone Breads & pastries from Ulster County, NY
  • Consider Bardwell Farm: Animal Welfare Approved raw cow and goat milk cheeses, and wood-fired maple syrup from Rutland County, VT
  • Goodale Farms: Vegetables and dairy from Suffolk County, NY
  • Jersey Farm: Produce Fruit and vegetables from Hunterdon County, NJ
  • Toigo Orchards: Orchard fruit from Cumberland County, PA
  • Wager’s Cider Mill: Orchard fruit, grapes, juice & cider from Yates County, NY
  • Williams Fruit Farm: Orchard fruit from Ulster County, NY

The market will also feature cooking demos, seasonal celebrations, family-friendly activities and more.

“The market opens on May 13 but I look forward to seeing everyone for the official grand opening celebration on May 20 as we celebrate ten years of tomatoes, tamarillos, tulips and tuna steaks!” said Gentile, plugging the annual event’s official kickoff.

The Bay Ridge Greenmarket will be open every Saturday between May 13 and November 18 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit www.grownyc.org for more information.
