Letter to the Editor: A great idea

I applaud Councilman Gentile for introducing a billtargeting illegal SROs that also gives inspectors authority to enter premises.

My concern is the loss of life of tenants or firefighters, since homeowners or landlordswho violate local and state fire building codes and change the original house footprint that consisted of easy passage from one room to another, obviously only care about money.

These homes with multiple locked doors, tiny crampedrooms with illegal wallsand narrow stairs prevent ingress and egress during a smoke-filled fire.

Ahome I lived in caught fire, but everyone escaped due to easy access to rooms and no construction changes which prevented challenges for firefighters.
