Several Williamsburg streets will undergo milling and repaving this spring, according to the city Department of Transportation website, which notes that the process began on Monday, May 6, on Jackson Street between Union and Kingsland Avenues.
The DOT website only lists the repaving schedule on a week-by-week basis; this week, in addition to Jackson Street, Lorimer Street between Metropolitan Avenue and Broadway is also going under construction.
The streets are being milled first — grinding up the top layer of asphalt — before new asphalt is laid down during repaving.
Commutes will hopefully not be affected too much since construction crews will be working mostly at night, said Assemblymember Joseph LEntol, who referenced potholes and general neighborhood infrastructure in explaining why such street work is necessary.
