Calling all artists and designers.
NYC Votes announced on Monday, March 20 the start of a contest to design a brand new “I Voted” sticker, just in time for the 2017 New York City elections.
“It’s more important than ever that New Yorkers participate in local elections, where impactful decisions are made on issues that affect our daily lives — from the quality of our schools, to the cost of renting an apartment,” said Amy Loprest, executive director of the New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB), which runs the NYC Votes voter engagement campaign. “Allowing New Yorkers to have a say in what their ‘I Voted’ stickers should look like expresses the unique pride we have for the place we call home and reflects the diversity of our amazing city.”
The winning design will be featured on the stickers, to be distributed at the polls during the elections this fall and in coming years. The CFB will be printing the stickers and the Board of Elections (BOE) will distribute them to voters at polling places all over the city on Election Day.
The deadline to submit a design is 5 p.m. Friday, April 14, after which NYC Votes will select finalists and — keeping with the theme — hold a public vote to decide the winner.
The current design is that of 10-year-old Zoe Markman, who won the campaign’s first ever “I Voted” sticker design contest in 2013 for her depiction of the Statue of Liberty.
“The ‘I Voted’ sticker is something all New Yorkers can wear on Election Day to share their love for New York City as a proud participant in local elections,” said Michael Ryan, executive director at the BOE. “We’re excited to see new designs that reflect this spirit.”
Those interested can submit their designs online at the CFB website.
