Bay Ridge Danish Club does Christmas — Scandinavian style

God Jul! (Merry Christmas)

Bay Ridge’s Scandinavian roots were on full display on Sunday, December 10, as the Bay Ridge Danish Club was the site of the annual Scandinavian Christmas Ball.

The ball, held within the club’s headquarters at 741 65th Street, featured traditional Norwegian, Swedish and American dancing around a Christmas tree, Scandinavian hot mulled wine (glögg), the time-honored Santa Lucia candlelight pageant, music by Smörgasbandet — a Scandinavian accordion band based in Long Island — and of course an appearance by Santa Claus himself.

Attendees were also treated to raffles, prizes, a full course dinner and dessert.

For years, the ball was hosted by the Swedish Folk Dancers of New York, one of the oldest Swedish folk dancing organization in the United States.
