“Aristocats” showcases fifth graders’ talents

Graduating fifth graders at P.S. 212 in Bensonhurst took thestage one last time on June 3, entertaining their teachers, familyand friends with their performance of The Aristocats.

Choreographed by Erica Ortiz and directed by Beatriz Cordoba, theplay was a colorful, musical, high-energy retelling of a Disneymovie about an alley cat that saves a family of aristocratic catsfrom a money-hungry butler who wishes to kidnap them.

Cordoba, who was awarded flowers after the show for her time anddedication, said that the fifth grade performance is a tradition atP.S. 212, and this year’s class began preparing five months inadvance.

Randi Garay, the PTA president at P.S. 212 and mother of Eddie, oneof the leads in the show, was very proud of the students andcommended them for taking time out of their busy schedules torehearse. Not only are they practicing for the show; they’repracticing for graduation at the same time, she said.
