Public hearing finally scheduled for charter co-location

The public hearingregarding the proposed continued co-location of Sunset Park HighSchool and Brooklyn Prospect Charter School has been rescheduledfor Tuesday, June 21, at 6 p.m. inside 135 35^th Street –the building currently shared by both schools.

The announcement wasmade earlier this week by the Department of Education after a monthof silence following the last-minute postponement of the previoushearing date on May 10.

The hearing is thelast chance for parents, students and community advocates to maketheir argument that forcing the two school’s students to sharespace for another year would put the building over capacity, aswell as force both schools to cut classroom, gym and cafeteriaspace, their curricula and after-school programs. The final DOEvote is set for Monday, June 27 at 6 p.m. at Manhattan’s HighSchool for Fashion Industries, 225 West 24^th Street.
