Ridge shining stars score Kassenbrock scholarships

Fifteengraduating seniors who combined academic achievement with communityservice have won $40,000 worth of scholarships through theKassenbrock Brothers Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The awards –ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 — were announced at the May meetingof the Bay Ridge Community Council (BRCC).

The fund – whichwas established in memory of BRCC’s founders – received more than50 applications this year, said Mary Ann Walsh, its executor.

“Not only weretheir performance of community service extraordinary but they hadmagnificent scholastic achievement, so we were quite thrilled bythis year’s applicants. They were all outstanding,” shestressed.

The winningstudents were Victoria Carillo and Kiera Cavalleri from BishopKearney High School; Krupali Chokshi and Christopher Xanthos fromBrooklyn Technical High School; Nicolette Cafiero and AlexaSbordone from Fontbonne Hall Academy; Hibba Abbas, Rodiana Ahmed,Amy Chen, Ahmed Eldib Anthony El Houayek, Barbara Kouretsos,Alexandra Roca and Daryl Truong, from Fort Hamilton High School;and Eric Magriples from Xaverian High School.
