Ridge Nightlife and Dining: Summer’s End

Summer is drawing to a close and all around, the signs of autumnare seeping in. Mornings bring a chill which hints of nearbySeptember, with breezes which signal the end of the heat wave. Backto school commercials invade the airwaves as tots desperately holdon to their last weeks of vacation. Beaches, barbecues, andsunburns will soon be just a faint memory for us, but, until then,Ridgeites invade the promenade, Shore Road parks, and blockparties. This is a time when those that hate the heat rejoice atthe approaching cold while most of us lament the approaching snowplows. In just a week, Labor Day will mark the end of the seasonwith tons of local events to help Brooklynites go out with a bang.Then it will be back to the familiar routine of the school year,with schedules, holidays, and fewer chances to recline in thesun.

On Saturday, August 27, Peggy O’Neill’s in Coney Island will holdan end-of-summer Battle of the Bands. Peggy-palooza 2011 will bringtogether tons of local bands to rock the day and night away at thestadium on the Cyclone’s night off. The free outdoor concert willbegin at 2 p.m. and last well into the night, lighting up the beachside destination for a last hurrah near the sand. The intoxicatingmixture of sea air and great music, within feet of Nathan’s Famousis a must before the summer is over.
