Community comes out for P.S. 121 Spook-tacular

Halloween isn’t a holiday known for bringing people together, but for the teachers and students of Public School 121 inBensonhurst, it was a chance to come out of the classroom and letloose.

On the afternoon of October 28, the school held its first-everSpook-tacular Haunted Gathering Bash in the playground at its 20thAvenue location. According to Principal Jayme Perlman, the fact theevent was open to all area residents made the day special.

What makes this so phenomenal is we opened this up to thecommunity, Perlman said. Your child doesn’t have to go here.

The day’s festivities included rides like a rapid slide and abounce house, and games like an eyeball toss and a potato sackrace. Face painting was also available. Students from the fifthgrade held a bake sale to raise money for upcoming events.

I liked going on all the rides and selling the cupcakes, saidfifth grader Fabiana Ingoglia, who added: It’s fun. You don’texpect teachers to play.

Parent Gilda Straw had her doubts about having the bash on theschool playground, but was impressed by how well the event cametogether.

I was reticent about this because we play back here, Strawsaid. But it was a great turnout and everyone had a greattime.
