OH ORLY: Week of November 24

Oh Orly,

I want to change jobs and maybe even start in a new careerfield. Any suggestions for me, especially in these difficulteconomic times?

Dear Nancy,

First, I would like you to think about what you want to do?Change jobs or start a new career? They are different in manyways.

Changing jobs is easy even in these economic times. It is a littletime-consuming and given the right efforts, you can strike a joboffer at any time.

Starting a new career is different, which brings me to my secondquestion and that is: What are you passionate about? Don’t start anew career because you just want a change. That would be likereplacing a dollar with four quarters. Follow your passion andbliss so that you can be happy for years to come, regardless of theeconomy. One more thing about career change is that it might comeat a lower salary, hence the reason you want to be at a career thatmakes you happy.

The third question is: Can you afford the downtime (transitioningperiod) or the lower income? Once you make a decision for change inany direction you chose, stick to it and it will be rewarding.

All for the best,

Smiles ?

Orly
