Falcons Try For First

The Bishop Ford Falcons varsity basketball team clinched secondplace and received a first round buy into the Class ‘A’ Division ofthe Catholic High Schools Athletic Association basketballplayoffs.

Led by sophomore guards Marc Jones and Damani Campbell and juniorforward Joshua Blograve, the Varsity Falcons sport a 5-4 leagueslate and 8-11 overall after their initial 19 games as they headdown the home stretch of the schedule.

The young Falcons went through some growing pains at the beginningof the season when they had two sophomores and three juniors asstarters. They have certainly improved since early in thecampaign.

The Falcons lost some close league games, including one to CardinalHayes, and got some key league wins in beating McClancy andXavier.

Blograve has come on and has played great ball. He is the mostsuccessful player, averaging about 20 points a game. He had acouple of good games and is being looked at as one of the bestplayers in the ‘A’ Division of the league.

His high scoring game was 27 points against Xavier and in theteam’s first contest against McClancy. Last year, he averagedaround 15 points an outing. He is also averaging around 12rebounds.

The returning all-league player is capable of shooting from thebaseline, inside the paint, on lay-ups and outside.

Blograve gets the ball from the guards, including Jones, who as asophomore is one of the starters in the backcourt. He made a niceadjustment from last year’s frosh team to the varsity one.

Coach Denis Nolan has also been impressed with the play of Jonesand Campbell. We hope to make a decent run in the playoff, Nolansaid.

Bishop Ford can still take the division title and hopes to make adeep run in the playoffs.
