I was dating a guy for nine months and we broke up. At work, I justfound out that a new person is joining my department. It’s myex-boyfriend. Any advice on how to handle this?

Dear Allison,

First, I would like to know if you still have feelings for him. Ifso, then take this advice. Keep your friends close and your enemiescloser. Not that he is an enemy, but you attract more bees withhoney. So be nice and polite, and if the feelings you have for himbother you, have as little interaction with him as possible.

Stay professional. In a work environment, make it business as usualand not personal. Don’t discuss your personal relationship with himwith anyone at work. If you hear from someone that he brought itup, don’t react; just say it didn’t work out between us. If youdon’t have feelings for him, then business as usual it is. Makesure you stick to that rule and you will be fine.
