The Kearney Tigers had a very busy and successful season this year, under the watchful coaching eyes of Rocco Sellitto and assistant coaches Grady Reid and Diana Canzoneri. They won the diocesan championship in regular season, finishing 10-2 and were semi-finalists in the Brooklyn/Queens Championship round.
A highlight of the season was captain Ali Gasparino’s being voted New York City’s number one breakout player of the year in a poll sponsored by the New York Post.
The last home game for the seniors on Kearney’s basketball team is always a meaningful and thought provoking event. This year’s game was no exception. When the game was over and the court was cleared, the senior parents were invited to the front of the gym.
Junior team members thanked the senior players for their support and encouragement, and wished them well in their college career. The seniors, in turn, thanked their teammates, their coaches and their parents for being an integral part of their basketball career at Kearney. Balloons, flowers, tears and, of course, good food, were all part of an evening that no one wanted to end.
Graduating seniors include Francine Ingargiola, Allison Gasparino, Caroline Thurlow, Cathy Wesolowski and Justine Vento.
