76 Precinct Police Blotter – February 1 to 12

From Friday, February 1 to February, February 12, police from the 76th Precinct in Carroll Gardens and Red Hook received reports of two robberies, two burglaries, criminal tampering, and petit larceny. They made three arrests and are searching for six other suspects.

Robberies

On Thursday, January 31, a 37-year-old man was allegedly robbed of his prescription medication by two Hispanic males who he said followed him down Baltic Street from a pharmacy near Hoyt and Bond Streets at around 7 p.m., police said. One suspect reportedly reached into his pocket and simulated that he had a weapon, before reaching into the victim’s pocket and taking his pills. The two men then fled in an unknown direction. The victim reported the incident two days later.

The first suspect had black eyes, close-cut brown hair, blue jeans and a black jacket; the second suspect stood around 5’8” tall, around 180 pounds, and had a black afro and blue jeans.

On Sunday, February 10, at around 1:10 a.m., a 34-year-old man was walking on Bond Street between Butler and Baltic Streets when he was allegedly approached by three men– one of them armed with a silver firearm – who kicked him in the groin and stole his iPhone and $30 in cash before escaping into the Gowanus Houses, said police.

The armed suspect who is said to have been the one to kick the victim, is described as a 6-foot tall, 28-year-old black man weighing around 120 pounds with short black hair and black jeans. The other two suspects are a 17-year-old black man standing 5’9” tall, 160 pounds, with black eyes, short hair, dark skin and a black bandana; and a 20-year-old black man standing 5’7” an weighing 170 pounds.

Criminal Tampering

A 25-year-old man is charged with criminal tampering for allegedly repeatedly punching an emergency shutoff box for a gas station pump at the Mobil station on Hamilton Avenue between Bush and Centre Streets. Police said the incident occurred after a 2:37 a.m. verbal dispute with a station clerk on Tuesday, February 12. Over $250 worth of damage and temporary shut-down of the gas pumps were reported.

Petit Larceny

A 39-year-old white male faces charges of petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property after reportedly taking money from a money bag, plus receipts, without permission at a Smith Street bar located between Degraw and Douglass Streets, police said. It was shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, when the incident occurred. The suspect insisted he was holding the money for his girlfriend.

Burglaries

Someone broke into a store on Court Street between Warren and Baltic Streets on Saturday night, February 9, stealing $5,045 in the process, said police, who responded to an alarm set off when the suspect(s) broke the window to gain entry.

Police arrested a 16-year-old teen for allegedly breaking into a Summit Street house and stealing $200 in coins and $40 worth of Bulleit Bourbon at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30. The teen is said to have broken a window screen to gain access to the house. He was arrested on February 11.
