The students at I.S. 187, Christa McAuliffe Intermediate School, are getting ready to awe audiences with Jekyll and Hyde, the musical.
Sixth, seventh and eighth graders from the Christa McAuliffe Drama Club, an after-school program open to all the academies, are excited to bring you Frank Wildhorns and Steve Cudens musical adaptation of Jekyll & Hyde, which theyve been rehearsing from two to three times a week for two-and-a-half hours each time.
We are thrilled to be granted the rights from Music Theatre International in spite of the fact that it [Jekyll and Hyde] will be back on Broadway this spring starring Constantine Moralis of American Idol fame, said the shows director, Susan Huizinga.
Its a great show, she continued, noting, Its unusual for a an intermediate school to do such a dark show.
Huizinga explained that teachers have become involved, as well. Two teachers are doing costumes; it requires a lot of collaboration. The children, in return, are taught teamwork, she concluded.
The premiere will be on March 8 at 7:30 p.m., followed by three additional performances on Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m., and again at 7:30 p.m.; and, lastly on Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m.
Tickets will be sold at the door at a cost of $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students under 21. The school is located at: 1171 65th Street. For further questions, contact Huizinga at 646-938-6589.
