Two Trees Management will be building community goodwill and maximizing the use of their 11 acres at the former Domino Sugar refinery site during the year before construction begins on the $1.5 billion project.
Site E — a vacant 55,000 square-foot lot on Kent Avenue between South 3rd and South 4th Streets — will be transformed into community space: a farm run by North Brooklyn Farms, green space for various programs, and a bilingual reading room. The site will be managed by the same group of Williamsburg residents who have been running art and culture programs out of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bushwick, reported Brownstoner.
Meanwhile, another part of the site will be used as a bicycle training area for riders of all ages and skill sets. It will be managed by Ride Brooklyn and the NYC Mountain Bike Association.
Both temporary spaces will be open by the end of May.
Two Trees’ vision for the 11-acre stretch along the Williamsburg waterfront consists of a row of sleek, open-air, and uniquely designed buildings that include a mix of commercial and residential units, plus landscaped public green space and access to recreational water activities.
