Barclays to host the NBA draft on June 27

The 2013 National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft will be coming to Barclays Center on Thursday, June 27, bringing even more of sports history to Brooklyn.

NBA Commissioner David Stern described the venue choice as a natural fit, thanks to the arena’s reputation as “a go-to destination for world class events” and Brooklyn’s history of being a home for “great basketball.”

The draft’s move to Brooklyn also comes as yet another blow to Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, which held the draft for a decade, from 2001 to 2011, before moving to the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

Tickets to watch the draft go on sale on Wednesday, May 22, at BarclaysCenter.com.

The NBA Draft is not the only professional sports draft in NYC this season.

The National Football League Draft will be held at Radio  City Music Hall from May 2 to 4, and the National Hockey League Draft will be in New Jersey at the Prudential Center on June 30.
