NYC Transmitter Park has officially opened its pier to the public!
Monday, April 8 marked the grand opening of the public pier along West Street and the East River, between Kent Street and Greenpoint Avenue.
The newly renovated and landscaped 1.6-acre park opened in August of 2012 after a $12 million renovation project added more greenery, an esplanade, a playground, benches, restored wetland, spray shower, nature gardens, and a pier at Kent Street. It is named after the two radio towers that broadcast WNYC radio from 1937 to 1990.
The former ferry terminal was transformed as part of the rezoning of Greenpoint and Williamsburg in 2005 to increase waterfront access.
The park was championed for years by residents and area politicians as much-need park ground and waterfront access for Greenpointers.
