REMINDER: Tomorrow is It’s My Park Day

Saturday, May 4, is It’s My Park Day and New Yorkers will be cleaning up and celebrating in parks across the city. There will be nearly 150 projects occurring simultaneously throughout the day and will include games, arts and cultural events, fitness programs and more.

Big or small, these events are a great way to enjoy the sunshine, have fun with neighbors, and stake a claim on your favorite bit of green space in your neighborhood.

Here is a list of a few of the It’s My Park Day events going on in Brooklyn tomorrow:

  • COFFEY PARK in Red Hook (9 AM to 1:30 PM)
    Meet at the Coffey Park Comfort Station.
    Join the tree stewardship movement with Peoples Urban Films Foundation to clean-up Coffey Park and learn how to care for trees. Tree give-away and workshop provided.
  • VALENTINO PIER in Red Hook (1 PM to 4 PM)
    Meet at Coffey Street, near Ferris Street
    Join the Red Hook Boaters for a shoreline clean-up, kayaking demonstration, kayaking lessons, and a volunteer orientation. The group will also renovate a new kayak container, as the old one was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.
  • OWL’S HEAD PARK in Bay Ridge (11 AM to 2 PM)
    Enter at the 67th Street and Colonial Road entrance.
  • NARROWS BOTANICAL GARDENS in Bay Ridge (10 AM to 1 PM)
    Meet along Shore Road between 69th and 72nd Streets.
  • MARINE PARK in Marine Park (10 AM to 1 PM)
    Meet at the Carmine Carro Community Center at 3000 Fillmore Ave.
    Join the Carmine Carro Community Center Alliance for a clean-up project, including raking, sweeping and mulching. There will be fun activities for children, such as clowns and face painting. Light refreshments will be served.

There will also be a simultaneous I LOVE MY PARK DAY event in Williamsburg:

  • EAST RIVER STATE PARK in Williamsburg (11 AM to 3 PM)
    Enter via 90 Kent Avenue.
    Plant Black-Eyed Susans in the children’s area and other plants around the park to help prevent erosion along the waterfront and for general park beautification. The event is sponsored by Friends of East River State Park and local businesses such as Williamsburg Dental Arts, Brooklyn Flea, Yuval Vidal Real Estate Broker, Jungle, and Soul Cycle. Additional support from Harvest Market, McCann and Brooklyn Roast, and Lynden Miller.
