Cyclists from around the city took part in the annual Five Boro Bike Tour on Sunday, May 5.

About 32,000 cyclists rode for 40 miles around the city. Here in Bay Ridge, riders pedaled down the Gowanus Expressway and over the Verrazano Bridge, to Staten Island where the race terminated.
Ken Podziba, CEO and president of Bike New York, said that extra security measures were in place in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings.
Brooklynite Ania Maria was one of the participants. She said that although the ride was long and grueling, she and her family had a great time.
“It was so much fun,” she said. “Riding in this great weather was awesome! New York City is so beautiful but from a bike view, it’s phenomenal!”
