Williamsburg native Antonio Reynoso endorsed by Markowitz, Seddio, Stringer

Antonio Reynoso has picked up three endorsements from major borough and citywide political leaders in his quest to fill the seat of his former boss, current Councilmember Diana Reyna, who represents the 34th Council District.

Brooklyn Democratic Party Chairperson Frank Seddio, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer formally announced their endorsement of Reynoso on Wednesday, June 19. They join several citywide elected officials in supporting the Williamsburg native, who faces a surprise challenger in disgraced veteran politician Vito Lopez.

Lopez officially stated his intention to run for Reyna’s Council seat shortly before resigning his Assembly seat on May 20 of this year, following an ongoing ethics investigation into allegations that he sexually harassed several female staffers over several years.

Reynoso, as Reyna’s former chief of staff, has practical experience “tirelessly fighting for the working families of Williamsburg, Bushwick, and Ridgewood for years,” said Stringer. “He is a consensus builder with a proven record of providing opportunities to low-income people and expanding the ranks of the middle class [and that is why] I enthusiastically endorse [him] for the City Council.”

Seddio, who was elected to his seat after Lopez’s scandals erupted, agreed, noting that Reynoso “will bring a fresh set of ideas and energy to such an important community.”

“Antonio Reynoso is the quality choice for [the 34th Council District seat],” chimed in Markowitz. “[He] has been an advocate and a leader in these communities and I know that he will continue to fight on the issues that are most important to Brooklynites—affordable housing, economic development, job creation, education, and public safety. I am proud to endorse Antonio because I know that he will serve the residents of the 34th Council District with the same dedication and integrity he has demonstrated throughout his young career.”

For his part, Reynoso thanked the officials for their support and pledged to “improve our schools, expand affordable housing, and invest in transportation across New York” with their help.
