On Sunday at around 1 a.m., a total of nine people were shot at 616 East 53 Street.
Five victims were immediately transported to Brookdale Hospital, and two were sent to Kings County Hospital, all in stable condition. It was later discovered than an additional two female victims of the shooting checked in at Methodist Hospital and Beth Israel Hospital, also in stable condition. Although there have not yet been any arrests, investigation is underway.
The attack is rumored to have been brought by the suspects being denied entrance to a house party.
One person of interest has been described as bale, black, in his 20s, at approximately 6’ and 200 pounds, wearing a white tank top. The other suspect is male, black, with a slim build, and was seen wearing a white tank top and a baseball cap.
On Tuesday, July 2, Council Member Jumaane D. Williams, co-chair of the Council’s Task Force to Combat Gun Violence, along with clergy, civic leaders and community residents will be speaking out against the incident. They will also call for legislative and enforcement measures in order to improve neighborhood safety.
